Takeshi Saji Knives
Takeshi Saji Knives, which you can buy in our store, are made in Echizen city, pref. Fukui. Echizen (also named Takefu at 1948-2005) has been famous for more than 700 years as a sword-making center. The blades called “Echizen Uchi-Hamono” (Echizen hammer-forged blades) were highly valued amongst Samurai warlords.
Master Takeshi Saji was born in Takefu in 1948 in a family of second-generation smith. He began studying blacksmith craftsmanship at the young age of 15. By the age of 30, he was admitted as a rightful professional and became a third-generation blacksmith. During his long career Takeshi Saji has not only trained perfectly in the traditional hammer-forging techniques of Echizen style, he also has developed his own professional secrets, technologies and unique ideas. In 1992, he was granted an honorable certificate of Dentou Kougeishi, “Traditional Master Craftsman”, by the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry of Japan.
Master Takeshi Saji calls his knives’ main feature a high specialization on the purpose. Takeshi Saji Knives are always hand-made for a particular meaning, be it the knife for chopping vegetables or for cutting the delicate cakes.
